Niue Renewable Energy Project Update

Learning Today - Powering Tomorrow: A Niue Success Story.

As part of the Niue Hikufenoga renewable energy solar farm earlier this year in February 2026 Merina Togiaono and Phoenix Talagi embarked on their online learning journey to improve their knowledge of renewable energy.

The renewable energy online course covered energy basics, such as generation of electricity, storage and using electricity, and energy conservation and consumption. They also looked at how energy could be consumed and conserved, and how it could be converted to alternative systems. A big focus of the course focus was on sustainability and climate impact, something that was covered in depth over 9 units and assignments.

The course was funded through the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships Programme, in partnership with Sunergise. As part of the course, participants were provided with laptops from Sunergise to enable them to complete their learning journey. Congratulations to Merina and Phoenix for completing the course and building expertise in this important sector for Niue.
